Baby Quilt Patterns
If you are looking for easy baby quilt patterns, kits or designs, you have come to the right place! I put this site together because my aunt spends so much time quilting and my mom and grandparents (yes grandma and grandpa) used to quilt and loved it. Of course the big occasion to need a baby quilt is when someone is expecting a new baby! This is probably the best gift your baby can receive because they are usually handmade by a family member.
They can come in many different designs and colors and will be a treasured gift to last a lifetime if properly cared for. I still have some of my original baby blankets today, even though that may be hard to believe! They definitely look worse for the wear, but are still my treasures! Of course this will be a family heirloom that I can pass down to my children and so on and knowing they were made with love makes them even more special!
Patterns are necessary for quilters so they know what design they will be using, what colors and the pattern usually comes with instructions that detail how to complete the blanket. This is usually quite an undertaking if it’s your first one and you may want to take lessons or find someone that can make one for you! If this is your first go at it, you will want to keep it simple.
The best way to choose a design is of course to know if it’s for a baby boy or girl. If the gender won’t be known until birth, then going with the more neutral gender colors of yellow or white will be a safer bet. You will most certainly want to find out what colors the nursery will be done in may help to match the baby quilt with the room. These aren’t necessarily must haves but you should consult the mother-to-be first.
My Aunt tells me that it is pretty simple, but then she has the whole shebang with equipment and computerized machine and all! She has dedicated a whole room to just her quilting equipment and mounds of material! Sometimes she has her friend come over and they will quilt together. Then I’m sure you’ve heard of quilting parties where a whole group of women get together to make the quilt.
Buying baby quilt patterns online is easy as most patterns can be downloaded and come with easy to follow instructions. Many quilters use the strip quilting method. This is a good method for beginners to use since it is pretty simple to make. To begin, you just need to pick out coordinating fabrics and colors and it will look fantastic! Of course, you will want to make sure to stick to the same type of fabric when selecting your colors and patterns because mismatched weight and texture may cause puckering when assembled and you definitely don’t want that.
My aunt made a quilt for us out of all types of designs and stripes in blue. It matches our bed at our lake house perfectly and is my favorite blanket, even though it’s not for baby! In fact everyone in the house fights over who will use that quilt! Of course that is quite a large quilt, much bigger than a baby quilt and when making one for a baby, it will be much smaller, so you may want to choose a smaller size pattern. I don’t believe that she used a quilt pattern but she does download patterns from the Internet. But, whatever you decide to go with, because it was handmade with love, it will be treasured by the parents-to-be and baby! Just remember to have fun while you make it and make sure to plan ahead enough so it’s completed by the time baby arrives! Good Luck!
